Step 5: Position the second cross of the Rubik’s Cube

Rubik's Cube - Step 5 - Objective

In the last step we’ve solved the second cross of the Rubik’s Cube. In this new step we’ll make the lateral cross colors to match with the center colors. We will only focus on the white Cube’s edges, without paying attention to the corners.

  1. Rotate the top layer of the Rubik’s Cube until there are two edges that coincide with their centers colors. If there is only one that coincides, continue rotating the top layer.
  2. Apply one of the following solutions depending on whether the right positioned edges are one beside the other or on the opposite side.

These are the possible cases:

Case 1: Adjoining edges
Rubik's Cube - Step 5 - Case 1

Case 2: Opposite edges

Rubik's Cube - Step 5 - Case 2

We should have solved the position of the second cross of the Rubik’s Cube. Now it’s time to see the solution to position the corners in their right place.

Alex, you have to hold the cube just like in the pictures.

I’m doing the case but it isn’t working. I Have two white edges on the top layer and two colored and I can’t get the white ones on the top face

You have to see which edges you need to move: case 1 (Adjoining edges) or case 2 (Opposite edges). You have to take the cube in your hands as in the pictures. Good luck!

Step five, case two: what does “observe” mean? I do case one, but that just screw it up, then I can re-do case one, and fix it. So what does it mean?

Nevermind, I got this one. I did case one from different angles multiple times to get it.

Sometimes, you have to perform just one case to solve a step. However, other times you have to perform more than one case.

So, with “observe” I mean that you have to do the first case and then look again to your cube. You will not have solved the step, but you will have another case to apply.
